Lucia special pilgrim

Among the devotees who every day visited the place where Saint Agatha was buried, once a special pilgrim came. About fifty years had passed since the martyrdom, when from the nearby city of Syracuse arrived the young Lucia who accompanied her mother Eutichia, seriously ill.

The relics

Giorgio Maniace decided to donate to the ruling house the precious relics of Saint Agatha of Catania and Saint Lucia of Syracuse, already known and venerated throughout the Mediterranean

The Miracle of the Veil

The first miracle: The veil stopped the river of fiery magma.

Iconography

Sant'Agata is present in the artistic tradition of Catania and in popular consideration in the guise of a holy girl ("Santuzza ", as the people of Catania affectionately call it)
