Founded in the 1858 by a benedectin monk,who was a botanic professor,Francesco Tornabene,Catania’s botanic garden have an extention of 16.000 square meters,13.000 of this are dedicated to the exotis plants(Hortus Generalis),and the others 3.000 are dedicated to the Sicily’s spontaneus flora(Hortus Siculus). The project have been mada by the architect Mario Di Stefanothat realized even the refined buliding in neoclassic style.
In the silence of his path you can observe different collections,the most important of them are the succulent plants, the palms, and Sicilian’s spontaneous plants. The botanics garden rappresent the univeristy museum trought wich it’s intente to promote the nature conservation and the nature protection.
