The Christians who had witnessed the martyrdom and death of Agatha collected with devotion her body and sprinkled it with perfumed aromas and oils, as was in use at that time. Then with great veneration they laid him in a stone sarcophagus, which from then until today has always been the object of worship in Catania. The sources say that, when the tomb was about to be closed, a boy, dressed in white silk and followed by another hundred young men, approached. At the head of the virgin laid a marble tablet, which today is a precious relic kept in the church of Sant'Agata in Cremona, with the Latin inscription " M. S. S. H. D. E. P. L. ", which in Italian means "Holy and spontaneous mind, honor to God and liberation of the homeland". This inscription, also called "praise of the angel", is the synthesis of the characteristics of the saint from Catania and is also a solemn promise of protection to the city.
