Among the devotees who every day visited the place where Saint Agatha was buried, once a special pilgrim came. About fifty years had passed since the martyrdom, when from the nearby city of Syracuse arrived the young Lucia who accompanied her mother Eutichia, seriously ill.
Lucia, kneeling on the tomb of the virgin and martyr from Catania, prayed fervently for the healing of her mother. It was then that Saint Agatha appeared to her: "My sister Lucia ", she said to her," because you ask of me what you yourself can offer to your mother? ". And then he added: "You too, just like me, will suffer martyrdom for your faith in Christ ".
Lucia returned to Syracuse with a heart full of joy and hope. His mother recovered and the prophecy of his martyrdom came true a year later: Saint Lucy was in fact martyred on 13 December 303, during the persecutions of Diocletian.
